ECLIPSES IN ASTROLOGY
posted June 30, 2008

I attended the Midwest Astrology Conference in Cleveland this past weekend and Sandra-Leigh Serio gave a very interesting lecture on eclipses; and so I thought it would be nice to share some of the information that she presented, along with some of my own personal thoughts on the power of eclipses.  read more...

MY THOUGHTS ON THE COMPOSITE CHART
posted June 13, 2008

The composite chart is the chart of the relationship. When two (or more) people come together, they create this whole other entity: the relationship itself. Notice how you act differently around different people. When you are with your best friend you might find yourself climbing Mount Everest or engaging in some other death defying activities; but when you are with your partner on the weekend, you might find yourself curled up on the couch drinking wine and listening to Enya by candlelight.  read more...

PERSONAL EMPOWERMENT AND PLUTO TRANSITS
posted June 3, 2008

Throughout so much of life we just cruise along, happy go lucky, conveniently ignoring the unsavory aspects of ourselves and our lives; and then, transiting Pluto comes along, hits an important planet or point in our natal chart, and BAM! our whole perspective on life is changed.  read more...

ARE WE SOULMATES? (PT 2) DESI ARNAZ AND LUCILLE BALL
posted May 30, 2008

Whenever I see someone on TV who is interesting, I run to the computer and see if I can find their astrology charts or birthdays. Yesterday I was watching the 1950s sitcom I Love Lucy and so I had to look up the charts for the two stars of the show: Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz, and that inspired me to write this follow up article today on soulmates.  read more...

BE JON'S ASTROLOGER, FOLLOW-UP
posted Mar 18, 2008

Long story short, no one stepped up to be my astrologer; and the Katherine Taylor Valentine's Day serenade, I'll admit was probably not the most brilliant idea to ever pop into my head. No regrets though, I had to give it my best shot. You have to take the risk to reap the reward.  read more...

THE MIDHEAVEN: DESTINY AND ASPIRATIONS
posted Mar 14, 2008

The cusp of the 10th house is called the Midheaven, and to me, the sign on the cusp of this house embodies the traits that we most admire and therefore aspire to integrate into our lives. Quite often, we do this naturally through our careers. If we are so inclined we could even say destiny is to be found in our 10th house. To understand our Midheaven (MC) sign, we also to have to look at its opposite sign found on the Nadir (IC).  read more...

THE EAGLES' LONG ROAD OUT OF EDEN (AND THE SATURN CYCLE)
posted Mar 11, 2008

The last time the Eagles released a studio album was also the last time Saturn was in Virgo, about 28 years ago. The Long Run was released in 1979; and in 2007 — one complete Saturn cycle later — they've released the follow up, Long Road out of Eden. Even the titles sound Saturn-inspired suggesting a long, hard road back to the top, which is where they are: perched at the top of the charts once again.  read more...

THE CANDIDATES: PART TWO, BARACK OBAMA
posted Mar 6, 2008

Barack Obama has a Leo-Gemini, Sun-Moon blend suggesting that his vital energy (his Sun) is directed towards being recognized and appreciated as someone special (Sun in Leo) and combines with his reigning need (his Moon) for diversification, communication and information (Moon in Gemini).  read more...

THE CANDIDATES: PART ONE, HILLARY CLINTON
posted Feb 24, 2008

Hillary Clinton has a watery Scorpio-Pisces, Sun-Moon blend suggesting tremendous depth and determination, powerful emotions, and intuitive understanding. She controls by knowing. However, she has no planets in earth signs or earth houses in her chart. There is nothing grounding her or enabling her to turn her intuitive understanding, big dreams, and ideals into reality. She needs help in that department.  read more...

KATHERINE TAYLOR: ARIES GIRL
posted Feb 19, 2008

Over Christmas I read this adorable little novel, Rules for Saying Goodbye, by the equally adorable Katherine Taylor, both of which I became smitten with immediately. The novel features an Aries girl protagonist. Aries women are independent, feisty and courageous; they thrive on adventure and challenge so faint of heart men with fragile egos need not apply.   read more...

WHEN LOVE COMES TO TOWN
posted Feb 1, 2008

Everybody wants to know when they will fall in love; and a couple months ago, I was able to tell a friend with certainty that she would be meeting somebody soon. This is very rare, but in my friend's particular case, the measurements were so strong I was certain. I wrote the forecast at the beginning of November 2007, outlining the month ahead, and came pretty close to the exact date.  read more...

LEARNING ABOUT THE PLANETARY ENERGIES
posted Jan 29, 2008

I was reading an article by Judy Vitale in which she interviews the famous astrologer Robert Hand and in the interview he says, "I do recommend transits as the best way to get in touch with planetary energies. You do feel the moods and everything changing". I agree with this 100%. You have to be able to feel the planetary energies in order to really start to get a grasp of astrology. The best way to do that is to follow the transits of the planets to your natal chart every day. Robert Hand wrote a great book called Planets in Transit in which he gives a cookbook definition of all the major aspect transits for each planet. This will help you to associate a distinct feeling for each planet.  read more...

BE JON'S ASTROLOGER
posted Jan 18, 2008

So I'm sitting here looking at my chart and contemplating my future, and I realize that it is truly impossible to read one's own chart objectively. So I've decided to ask for some help from my loyal readers.  read more...

WHAT'S ON YOUR HORIZON: A LOOK AT THE ASCENDANT/DESCENDANT AXIS IN YOUR HOROSCOPE
posted Dec 17, 2007

Our Ascendant or Rising sign describes our unique personal style, the way in which we present ourselves to the world; and at least in part, it describes our actual physical appearance. Sometimes people's appearances can be accurately described by their Sun sign as well, it all depends on which sign is more dominant in the person's chart.  read more...

TUNE INTO YOUR MOON SIGN: YOUR REAL NATURE AND RELATIONSHIP NEEDS
posted Dec 6, 2007

Our Moon sign shows how we can best nurture ourselves, what makes us feel comfortable and at home. We actually have to work to express our Sun sign, but our Moon sign is totally instinctive, it comes naturally. Astrologer Noel Tyl teaches that our Moon sign describes our "reigning needs" and our Sun sign shows us the best way to go about satisfying those needs.  read more...

FUN WITH THE SUN: SOME BASIC ASTROLOGY TRICKS
posted Dec 4, 2007

I highly recommend going to see a skilled astrologer to have your horoscope read; or better yet, learning astrology for yourself. There are some really simple tricks that will get you excited about astrology without even breaking a sweat. Professional astrologers take a lot of heat for the Sun sign columns seen in the newspaper, so I want people to know there's so much more to astrology than that.  read more...

OUR PLANETS ALIGNED: PROGRESSED PLANETS IN SYNASTRY
posted Nov 27, 2007

Our reigning, most basic needs in astrology are symbolized by the Moon in our horoscope. The secondary progressed Moon's position, by house and sign, tells us where our reigning need (our heart) is at any given time in our development  read more...

DOES JUPITER BRING WINDFALLS OR JUST A BIG BAG OF WIND?
posted Oct 22, 2007

We get so excited, like a kid at Christmas, when transiting Jupiter aspects an important point in our chart; but so often he comes and goes without leaving us any presents, so we feel deflated. Jupiter is currently transiting right over my Ascendant  read more...

THE ASTROLOGY OF NIKKI SIXX'S HEROIN DIARIES
posted Oct 10, 2007

Mötley Crüe was my favorite rock band back in the 80's and it's still fun to see what they are up to, because they are usually up to no good. Being bad is profitable though and Nikki Sixx's new book, The Heroine Diaries debuted on The New York Times Best Seller's List at #7. The book is a detailed account of Nikki's own harrowing battle with addiction leading up to the point where he actually overdosed and died and was brought back to life.  read more...

CHART SYNTHESIS: BRINGING IT ALL TOGETHER
posted Sept 28, 2007

The art of synthesis, bringing the different factors of the horoscope together and making them sing in harmony, is what makes a good astrologer. Cookbook interpretations help us learn the details: the significance of the planets, signs, and houses; but they are basically useless in whole chart synthesis. In this article, I will be discussing, with the help of Al Pacino's chart, how astrologers do this, artfully bring the many aspects of a chart together.  read more...

READING THE ANGLES IN THE HOROSCOPE
posted Sept 28, 2007

Statements such as I'm a Capricorn (Sun sign) give us a hint of insight into a person, but approximately 1/12th of the population have Capricorn Suns, so it really doesn't tell us very much about the individual. Now, if I tell you I'm a Capricorn Sun with an Aries Moon and Sagittarius Rising, we start to get a better picture in our minds; yet, it is still incomplete, and we are still making generalizations. When we view the horoscope as a whole, with all its parts, that's when the person's horoscope truly comes to life and becomes distinct from everybody else's, a captured moment in time.  read more...

TIMING BIG CHANGES WITH ASTROLOGY
posted Sept 28, 2007

Change is a tricky proposition. We all long for it at some point in our lives, but most of us are, at least, a little frightened of it. But change is inevitable, no matter how much kicking and screaming we do. One of the things that astrology can do for us reliably is tell us when the stage is set for big change. While it can't fill in all the details (that's what life is for), a good astrologer can give you a "heads up" and prepare you as best they can.  read more...

TURNING THIRTY AND THE SATURN RETURN
posted March 19, 2007

A scary thing happens to most of us as we approach thirty. Words like time, reality and responsibility start to creep into our vocabulary with more frequency, and it feels like an era is coming to an end, life will never be the same. Many of us approach this time in our lives with dread, but with every ending comes, rest assured, a new beginning and new opportunities for a more authentic life. Although the process can be painful, change and growth are a very necessary part of life.  read more...

MY FAMILY AND THE ANGLES OF THE CHART
posted February 7, 2007

I emphasized the power of the Angles (Ascendant-Descendant and Midheaven-Nadir axes) in synastry in my last article, and I would now like to share an excellent example of astrology in action. This is my family's story told from an astrologer's point of view. The running theme of this story is the shared Aries/Libra axis: the polarity between freedom and relationship, willful self-assertion vs diplomacy. As Noel Tyl says, Aries needs to be number one and Libra needs to be popular. The challenge lies in integrating the opposite nature of these two signs.  read more...

ARE WE SOULMATES?
posted January 23, 2007

One of the most fascinating topics to study in astrology is synastry, or the comparison of two people's charts to determine their likely compatibility and relationship. Synastry is the astrological answer as to why we are strongly drawn to certain people, why we feel these deep, often inexplicable, attractions.  read more...

THE ASTROLOGY OF GERALD FORD
posted January 2, 2007

I thought it was appropriate tonight to take a moment to pay tribute to our 38th President, Gerald Ford, and since this is an astrology website I'd be remiss if I didn't include his astrology. Gerald Ford was the President of the United States when I was born so, obviously, I don't remember his days in office, but I think you always feel an affinity for the sitting President when you were born.  read more...

JIMMY BUFFETT: BUILDING A CAPRICORN EMPIRE ON NEPTUNE
posted October 28, 2006

Let's take a look at the birth chart of Jimmy Buffett, famous for his very Neptunian tune "Margaritaville" which features the hook, "wasting away again in Margaritaville, searching for my lost shaker of salt." He was inspired by his days in Key West, but Jimmy was no ordinary Neptunian beach bum. He had ambition.  read more...

WHAT MAKES A TIGER?
posted September 30, 2006

Eldrick "Tiger" Woods was born December 30, 1975 at 10:50pm in Cypress, California, the son of a retired army officer Earl Woods (Vietnam vet) and Kulita Woods from Thailand. Tiger has a diverse ethnic background consisting of Caucasion, African American, Native American, and Asian ancestory. Yesterday, Tiger won his fourth consecutive PGA tournament, a streak that includes two major championships: the British and the PGA. All of this coming on the heels of his father's recent passing, after a long battle with cancer, on May 3, 2006. Earl Woods played a most significant role in his son's success getting him started in golf at the ripe old age of three.  read more...

STEVIE NICKS AND LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM: SOUL MATES?
posted September 29, 2006

I'm a big fan of Fleetwood Mac, and as a musician myself, I have always been interested in their story — in particular, the relationship between the two band members Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks. I'll take a look at their relationship from an astrological point of view in this article.  read more...
