Our Planets Aligned: Progressed Planets in Synastry

The Rolling Stones sang:

"You can't always get what you want
But if you try sometimes you just might find
  You get what you need."

Our reigning, most basic needs in astrology are symbolized by the Moon in our horoscope. The secondary progressed Moon's position, by house and sign, tells us where our reigning need (our heart) is at any given time in our development, usually spending about two and half years in each sign and house as she makes her way around our horoscope.

As an astrologer, I notice on a regular basis that I tend to attract clients whose reigning needs (their progressed Moon) at the time of the consultation tie into a natal configuration in my own horoscope; or vice versa, what I need at the time (my progressed moon) ties in neatly to the client's horoscope. For example, I have a client whose progressed Moon is currently moving through Sagittarius. In my natal chart, I have the Ascendant, North Node, Mars and Neptune all in Sagittarius. At the time of the consultation, her progressed Moon was at 7 degrees Sagittarius, within a degree of my North Node. While her progressed Moon travels through Sagittarius, she will draw people to her who will help her see the world in a larger scope, help her to be free and expand her horizons (Sagittarius stuff). This is astrology's version of the law of attraction.

In this case, it worked the other way as well. My Progressed Moon was at 10 degrees Cancer, exactly conjunct her IC (her most hidden and private point) and in the reading we went pretty deep into IC and 4th house issues. To top it off my natal Moon is conjunct her North Node and her natal Moon is conjunct my South Node, so I suggested to her that this reading might be some kind of karmic debt I was paying off. Some astrologers suggest that the South Node symbolizes past lives and karmic debts and the North Node karmic payoffs. Interesting stuff to consider and no way to prove it, but one thing is for sure: Nodal contacts in synastry are very important.

This applies to you and your everyday encounters as well. Check and see where the progressed Moon is when you meet or met a significant person in your life and see how it relates to your chart. This applies to the other progressed inner planets (Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars) and angles as well. Most of the time you will find a conjunction of your progressed planet or angle to a natal or progressed planet in the other person's chart or vice versa.

Another thing to watch is the Moon cycle. A lot of times two people meet for the first time when the degree of a New or Full Moon hits very close to the degree of an important synastry contact between them. For example, I met someone who has since become a good friend for the first time when the New Moon was conjunct within a couple of degrees of a tight synastry conjunction between my Sun and her IC. Her progressed Mars was also within a few minutes of arc from my progressed Venus, and it was my Venus Return.

In another good example involving the progressed Moon, I started Noel Tyl's course when my progressed Moon was conjunct his Ascendant at 0 degrees Cancer which happens to square my Midheaven at 0 degrees Libra. We had a bit of a falling out this summer (mostly my fault) and then we reconciled recently with my progressed Moon exactly opposite his Sun. With my progressed Moon in Cancer I'm trying to establish a solid secure foundation with people who feel like family (Cancer). At this time, I tend to attract people with a strong Cancer orientation in their horoscope.

When I first contacted my web designer Elaine Kalantarian with ideas for this website, her progressed Moon was within a couple of degrees of my natal Moon in Aries and when she went to work on it the conjunction was partile (within one degree of exact). I also want to note that Elaine's North Node (future growth) is exactly conjunct my Midheaven (my Career and public image) and my Sun (my identity) is conjunct her Midheaven (her career and public image) so the astrological symbolism is a perfect reflection of reality.

The examples go on and on, now go and see where you're progressed planets are and test this out for yourself. It's a lot of fun.
